Rae Sremmurd 'No Type' might be the guiltiest pleasure ever

Simplicity.

Beginning with the beat and especially continuing with the lyrics and subject matter.

Amazingly, sometimes those are the only ingredients needed to make a great song. (Yes, I said great.)

This, my dear reader(s), is exactly one of those times.

I am OBSESSED with DeJ Loaf

OK, I know I'm a little late to the party.

I usually pride myself on being up on the latest rap and Hiphop music, but in this instance I was late.

It's only been about a month since DeJ Loaf (pronounced "dayj") dropped her debut [hit] song, "Try Me," and already the track is all but a cult classic in the underground. But with the mainstream exposure she's getting -- I'm embarrassed to say that I was introduced to her by MTVJams, of all sources -- she will soon be signed to a major label.

It's only a matter of time.

Imitation is the highest form of flattery. Either that or it's biting.

So, apparently there's a new phenomenon in Hiphop: white rappers who have the ability to sound just like some of the greatest rappers of all time.

This is actually a thing.

But not just sound like them; they can emcee like them.

And when I say some of the greatest rappers, I'm talking about two in particular.

Here's the thing, though.

The rappers in question aren't wack for doing what some not too long ago would call a severe commission of the holiest of holy Hiphop commandments.

I mean, they're actually nice. Actually, beyond nice. They're dope. AF

Happy birthday, Nas!

Nas was busy on Sunday celebrating his 41st birthday in style, complete with a custom-made cake that matches his signature QB chain that was made infamous on the cover two very good albums that you might have heard of.

One Web site has ranked the gaudy piece of jewelry among the "greatest" in Hiphop.

The cake's baker must have agreed, as the confection is decorated with a ton of edible diamonds and frosting on the side that spells out "41st side," a nod to the notorious intersection of 41st Avenue and Vernon Blvd. in Queens immortalized on Illmatic, which just celebrated its 20th anniversary with a new documentary.

Take a look at the over-the-top cake below:

8 rappers who would be nothing without DJ Premier

Let's face it. There are certain rappers out there who just sound better rhyming over one single producer or production team's beats.

When they must turn -- or resort -- to another producer for music, the results usually fall short of the surefire heat rocket that one guy or team is guaranteed to bang out for you faithfully.

Obviously, there are more than a few examples of these instances in rap. A couple immediately come to mind:

Apathy has quietly become New England’s greatest rapper

Champion underground stalwart Apathy has been extra active this summer, apparently busy crafting ill rhyme after ill rhyme and releasing music at an admirable pace.

When a rap battle goes wrong...

Here is what's wrong with Hiphop right now.

A traditional Hiphop confrontation of rhymed words quickly devolved into an all out brawl, courtesy of a sucker punch for the ages.

Sheek Louch very well could be the most slept on rapper. Ever.

Whether you want to admit it or not, Sheek is a beast in the booth. He just happens to be part of a veritable supergroup that includes two rappers who are widely perceived as being just plain better than Sheek is. Or ever was.

But there's one serious flaw in that argument. Actually, way more than one.

At least Pharrell can still spit a mean 16...

The truth of the matter is that good old Neptunes sound we know and love is long gone.

I've finally come to terms with what is now a solid fact.

But in my opinion, the one constant that has remained throughout Pharrell's transformation from cult idol to all-universe superstar is his rapping ability, which is severely slept on.

Read on for further proof.

The bastardization of Hiphop is alive and well!

There are so many things wrong with this sponsored ad that popped up on Facebook.

What does Ty Ty do other than go to Nets games?

Can you guess which one Ty Ty is in this picture?

Seriously. No shots fired, I'm just being curious here.

I've done a few Google searches to try to figure out what his deal is besides being besties with Jay, and all I can find is more of the above.

Boston Globe: Iggy Azalea is 'hip-hop'

The Boston Globe wants to know if "hip-hop" is ready for Australian raptress Iggy Azalea.

But the better question may be, does hip-hop really care about her?

I'm sorry but just because you happen to rap doesn't mean that you're hip-hop or a hip-hopper -- it just means that you rap.

As seen in the photo at left from today's paper, The Boston Globe is among the latest mainstream media to try to brand a white musical artist as "hip-hop."
